Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am originally from California, and then I moved to Boston to go to school at Northeastern University. I currently work for CAPA as the Manager of Admissions and I am getting my masters at Northeastern in Global Studies and International Relations.
When and why did you begin practicing yoga?
Almost 10 years ago I was inspired by my dad who really loves yoga. It didn’t really become a consistent practice until the last 5 years when it’s become a part of my lifestyle, and moreso since starting at Artemis. I think that transition was from realizing the health benefits, and realizing how much easier it made my life overall.
What brought you to Artemis?
Artemis is super close to where I live! I had actually stopped practicing for a little while, but then I saw that you had opened and that you had the Newcomers Pass promotion and I couldn’t pass it up!
What have you learned/how have you grown from practicing at Artemis?
I think I’ve really learned to be more connected spiritually—allowing myself to not only be taken by the sport of yoga but also the mindfulness of it. I have connected with a lot of teachers here, and really like Mary Garon’s style of teaching in particular. The words she uses throughout class are so inspiring. It’s like a complete mental and physical session.
What is/was most challenging about yoga?
I think it’s been difficult getting over the insecurities of not being able to do some of the poses, and being okay with my limitations of flexibility. It’s been about trusting that the flexibility I want will come to me as I continue practicing.
What is most rewarding?
Haha, I feel like yoga solves all of life’s problems! Mentally, physically, spiritually…you can take a bad day and turn it into a good day. You can take a good day and turn it into a better day. It’s so positive with so many benefits.
Which classes have you been attending recently?
I take Mary’s Wednesday and Saturday classes, and I also love Caitriona’s Yoga for Athletes class. One of the aspects of Artemis I appreciate so much is the very clear class levels. They are very well defined so that you can choose what best suits you on any given day and you know what you are getting into; there’s no intimidating surprises.
What would you want others to know about practicing here?
You guys take such good care of your clients. It’s a very personalized experience, both in class and right when you come in through the front door. Everybody is so friendly and open.
