Sue’s first yoga teacher was the yoga lady from PBS, the one who came on before Sesame Street! Sue followed along, picking up marbles with her toes and attempting shoulder stands while her mother laughed and declared yoga was strictly for hippies.
In the early 1990s, a work colleague mentioned the Iyengar Yoga Institute of Somerville and Sue was immediately hooked. Her posture improved, her spirits soared after every class, and she became, by her own admission, considerably less of a hot head. For eight years she never missed her Monday night class, no small feat in an era when bringing up yoga could clear a room.
For a few years in the late 90’s Sue studied with Baron Baptiste, earned a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and eventually did find her way back to Iyengar, studying for years with Peentz Dubble. Sue values Iyengar Yoga for its explicit directions for each asana and pranayama and its deep exploration of body, mind, and soul. For Sue Iyengar Yoga is as concrete an exploration of our nebulous existence on this Earth as anything she’s found. She is a Level 2 Certified Iyengar Yoga teacher.
Off the mat, Sue is a devoted reader, enjoys putting her toes in Maine water, and can be found driving her 15-year-olds to hockey, piano, tennis, and lacrosse. She is the proud owner of a Labrador Retriever, a happy breed that only wants to hang out, go for long walks, and retrieve a tennis ball. Every single throw is a boundless opportunity for joy. Just like a good yoga class.
