As a goddess, Artemis is represented as one who is healthy and vigorous and who grants strength and health to others. An apt analogy for our yoga studio!
With 40+ in-studio, online or outdoor classes a week led by over 20 part-time instructors and staff.
Artemis Yoga is home to many specialty programs for continuing yoga education, unique girl’s empowerment programs plus yoga and mindfulness classes for working professionals and employee wellness.
Founded in 2015, Artemis Yoga is a friendly, welcoming and accessible studio in Coolidge Square, Watertown. Liz Padula opened Artemis Yoga in East End Watertown because of the vibe and growth of the area.
“It is a great neighborhood with so much energy right on the edge of Cambridge and Brighton,” says Liz. “As soon as I saw the building, I knew it was the perfect spot and began to develop plans for the renovation of the space.”
Today the yoga center is an open and inviting, tranquil environment where students are welcome to join all levels of yoga and learn, relax, and rejuvenate. The space hosts two practice studios and offers flow yoga (Vinyasa), Iyengar yoga, Ashtanga yoga and restorative yoga as well as programs for kids, teens and more.
Artemis Yoga founder and owner, Liz Padula. has been practicing yoga for most of her life – as a six-year-old she was introduced to yoga and meditation by her sister who had just returned home from the Peace Corps. Flash-forward to her 20’s, Liz enrolled in yoga classes at the San Francisco YMCA and she’s been practicing ever since.
Prior to opening Artemis Yoga in 2015, Liz had a successful technology product marketing career on both coasts, in Silicon Valley and in Boston. In such fast-paced, high-growth environments, Liz applied the teachings of yoga and mindfulness to bring concentration and focus into her work.
As a yoga instructor herself, Liz continues to communicate this message to her students so they can leave distractions at the door and be “present” on their mat. Along the way, yoga helped Liz through a personal health situation and family loss in 2012 and Liz realized that she could turn a passion into a purpose. So, with her business background and an MBA helping her to confidently make Artemis Yoga a reality, Liz took the entrepreneurial plunge in 2015 and hasn’t looked back!
Artemis Yoga has garnered rave reviews for its community, its teaching and its design beauty. It is a space that is simply, inviting, appealing and highly functional.
To get this result, Artemis Yoga hired Moughan Contracting and The Architectural Team to redevelop and completely transform two out-of-date retail storefronts and a basement area that had formerly been a historic urban grocery store into one beautiful yoga center.
The entire building needed to be brought up to code and modern standards, so this was a total redevelopment-to-suit from the ground up.
Together, The Architectural Team, a leading architectural firm with a specialty in urban rehabilitation projects, and Moughan Construction re-imagined this space into a beautiful yoga center with two large practice rooms, three bathrooms, shower, lockers and a lobby area with high ceilings and plenty of natural light.
When the pandemic hit, Artemis Yoga was ready with its modern HVAC system that included built-in fresh air exchange units – a critical aspect to re-opening safely with top-notch air quality. Artemis Yoga is definitely is an oasis in Watertown!
Artemis Yoga wants to welcome students to grow or start their yoga practice here. Our tagline is Welcome. Learn. Practice. We truly believe that!
We would like to help you to tap into your strengths – whether you are the student who is challenged by a pose and susceptible to a short cut or the really limber person who falls lazily into a pose from accessibility (and not strength.) We want to laugh at ourselves and enjoy this moving meditation while building each individual students’ strength, balance and serenity along the way.
Artemis Yoga is committed to enable individuals with disabilities to participate as fully as possible in classes at our yoga studio. On the first level there is a wheelchair accessible entrance, yoga class studio and bathroom.
All classes on the first floor are wheelchair accessible in our flagship, primary studio. The lower level studio is reached by two stairways. In the event that a class in the lower level is not accessible to a participant, the studio owner or manager on-premise will adjust that class location to the first floor, grade level studio. With reasonable notice, this change will readily be made as an accommodation.
The request can be made in person, via email or telephone and advance notice of the request to the studio is appreciated. Artemis Yoga will make an earnest effort and attempt to provide reasonable accommodation pending timely notice by participants needing such accommodations.
Artemis Yoga will also work with the individual to ensure that participation in class is achievable. This may include providing additional props, chairs or hands-on assistance that the teacher is able to deliver while continuing to teach the class to all participants.
If you have any questions regarding this policy, please reach out directly to the studio owner, Liz Padula.
