The ropes, or Yoga Kurunta, the yoga of the puppet, are a particularly effective prop to extend the spine. In turn the ropes help to expand the chest, extend the arms, and open the pelvis so you can approach the family of poses commonly known as backbends or back extensions.
The ropes help you to safely move in new ways through the expansion of the front body and the strengthening of the back body. Because these poses provide a dynamic experience of parts of the body we cannot see, our mind can move deeply inward as we practice.
In this workshop, we will have two hours to prepare ourselves for dropping back into Urdhva Dhanurasana (bow pose) on the ropes. On the way, we will explore how practicing back extension asanas with different orientations to gravity can bring us new experiences of the body, mind and breath.
