This Gentle Yoga for Bone Health – Yoga for Osteoporosis series provides students who are concerned about their bone health with a dedicated space to learn how to practice yoga to improve bone density, balance, posture and proprioception, and increase their range of motion, strength and coordination. Students will be taught accessible yoga sequences designed by Dr. Loren Fishman, a student of BKS Iyengar and a researcher on the effectiveness of yoga for people with osteopenia and osteoporosis.
Led by nationally Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher, Mary Wixted, you will learn alignment principles to approach yoga poses effectively and safely and how to bring this practice into your daily life. Mary has taught these classes for 10 years and she finds these special series an excellent opportunity to bring the rejuvenating practice of yoga to students who might be fearful of regular classes or who need more introductory learning and special attention. Props will be used when needed to protect the body and as a support for deeper learning.
