Flora began practicing yoga in 2010 and was immediately drawn to the mind-body practice for the relief it offered from general physical discomfort and a racing mind. Eager to go deeper with her practice, she completed her RYT 200 training through YogaWorks in 2013 and repeated the training the following year to further deepen her understanding of alignment and sequencing.
Early on in Flora’s yoga practice, she developed a low back injury and eventually stepped away from yoga to pursue other forms of teaching, movement, and body learning. Over time, she developed additional use-related injuries which led her to the Alexander Technique, an awareness-based approach which teaches one to confront habitual patterns of tension and movement and replace them with new, consciously derived directions. Again driven to understand on a deeper level, Flora completed a 1600-hour Alexander Technique Teacher Training in 2024. She is now a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique and incorporates her nuanced understanding of body mechanics into her newly-rediscovered yoga practice.
Flora’s teaching is slow, methodical, and detailed. She invites students to become more intimately observant of their bodies and patterns of tension, some of which have become so habitual as to no longer be noticed. Every pose is an opportunity to observe, let go, and find a deeper sense of ground and self. Flora offers hands-on adjustment to ensure that everyone is safely practicing.
