A two year foundational course to learn principles of teaching Iyengar Yoga
The two-year Iyengar Yoga Teacher Education program includes 18 weekends over the course of 2 years from January to December each year. Monthly weekend sessions will be held on both Saturday and Sunday afternoons in person at Artemis Yoga in Watertown, MA. Please see below for the schedule. There is not an online component to this course.
Weekend sessions will include learning teaching techniques specific to Iyengar yoga including demonstration, instructions, prop usage, adjustments, and sequence design. Specialty topics will be covered during the program.
You will also have an opportunity to grow your teaching communication skills so you may cultivate community and connection with students. There will be expectations of asana, anatomy and philosophy homework regularly in this course.
This cohort of approximately 15 students will create a supportive community of fellow participants. This is a two year commitment, you are expected to complete the full two year program.
Yoga teachers who do not currently hold a CIYT are welcome to join this program. This program is suitable for seasoned Iyengar Yoga students who are planning to take assessment in the future but you do NOT need to plan to become a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher in order to participate in this training.
Regular weekly Iyengar Yoga class participation with a CIYT, ideally in person at your local yoga studio, is expected. If you live in a location without a nearby CIYT, you can discuss with Jarvis suitable online classes. Participants are encouraged to attend Pranayama classes, Sutra of the Month club and Iyengar Yoga workshops offered by Artemis Yoga on a regular basis.
The two year program is $6,000.
Each year can be paid separately. A deposit of $500 to hold your space will be required after your acceptance into the program. First Year Payment is due prior to the beginning of each annual session. Students are expected to attend the entire program.
Please inquire about financial aid if needed.
